  23. I used NVT.EXE, provided with Unixware, to attach some MSDOS Kermit users
  24. to my Unixware system.
  25. NVT is loaded via autoexec, or by a kerm.bat file, which just loads the
  26. TSR, and then invokes kermit.
  27. On the Unix box, there is a process called nwgetty that looks for these
  28. connections, meaning that I can only connect to Unixware, and not the other
  29. Unix boxes on my network.
  30. >From Kermit, "set port Bios1" and then connect.  You should get a login
  31. prompt.  It is possible to start a second session by using control-T to get
  32. back to the NVT prompt.

  34. I found NVT to be an annoying pain...
  35. It would hang.  It would create sandbars in memory, so that other DOS
  36. programs only see 384k of Conventional Memory...

  38. I now use MSKermit with ts builtin TCP to connect to the telnet port on all
  39. of my servers.  This is a much happier arrangement.
  40. The Novell stations still run IPX for netware, via the VLM stack, but I can
  41. run TCP to any of the UNIX machines.
